Midwest Distance Challenge
We received the following e-mail from Coach Ramsey of the Brocaw Blazers about an event to be held at Pittsburg State in Kansas on June 1. Pittsburg, Kansas is 4.5-5 hours south of Omaha. Neither Dustin nor I have attended this meet, but Coach Ramsey is well-respected in the distance community. The event will feature only 800, 1 mile and 3200 meter distances, and athletes can only run one of the events. Pacers will be provided. The entry cost is $15.
"The Midwest Distance Challenge was created to give Junior High and High School distance athletes in the midwest an opportunity to run a great time while they are in the best shape of their outdoor Track and Field season by running on an INDOOR 300 meter track - that has one of the fastest rubber surfaces available at any facility in the United States. The Plaster Center at Pitt State also has curves that are as wide as many 400 meter outdoor high school tracks! Just think... pacers, no wind, perfect temperature and a fast surface. What more could a distance runner ask for attempting to set a personal record!
