OPS High School Cross Country Meet

Saturday, October 10, 2020, 12:00 p.m.

Walnut Creek Recreation Area

108th & Highway 370

Race details:

  • This event is open only to students enrolled at the seven OPS high schools.

  • This is a 5,000-meter cross country race following the traditional Walnut Creek route.

  • Race results will be uploaded to Athletic.net.

  • Each runner will compete unattached. School-issued racing uniforms should not be worn. Team scores will not be kept.

  • Consistent with OPS policy, athletes are not allowed to be directed by coaches during the event.

  • There will be no awards or medals. Simply put, this is a chance for OPS athletes to race.

Registration details:

  • Registration is mandatory but there is NO REGISTRATION FEE. Official timing provided by Black Squirrel Timing at no cost. All other race-related expenses will be covered by private donors.

  • Participants must pre-register by noon, Friday, October 9.

  • Race day check-in time to collect your race bib will be from 11:00-11:30. More details will be provided when your registration is confirmed.

  • The parent/guardian of each participant will be required to sign and submit a liability waiver (standard for road races) since this is not a school-sponsored event.

  • To register, send the following information by email (jayslagle@hotmail.com) or Twitter direct message (@PrepRunningNerd): Athlete name, grade, high school, phone number (preferably cell phone) and e-mail address.

  • Registration is complete when the liability waiver is returned by e-mail or text.

COVID details:

  • Each race is limited to 60 participants. If less than 60 runners register, we will have a mixed-gender race at 12:00. If more than 60 runners register, we will have a boys-only race at 12:00 and a girls-only race at 12:45.

  • Runners will be called to the start no more than five minutes prior to the designated start times.

  • Water will not be provided at the finish line. Each runner is responsible for bringing their own water.

  • Athletes must wear masks EXCEPT WHEN warming up, racing or cooling down.

  • Spectators must wear masks as soon as they leave their cars. Spectators should observe social distancing (>6 feet) at all times.

  • Athletes and spectators must self-monitor for COVID-like symptoms, including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, headaches, lost of sense of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or running nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If an athlete or spectator experiences any of these symptoms, they should stay home.

  • Athlete camps should be at least 100 feet from other camps.

This race is being organized by Prep Running Nerd without support from NSAA member schools in order to comply with NSAA regulations. All questions should be directed to jayslagle@hotmail.com.
